Hey Rico, Let's Go Bowling

Posted on May 27, 2012 at 11:10 AM Comments comments (0)

At night, during Friday in the 25th of March, we left to go bowling at 9:30 PM.

Now if you didn't know I wasn't able to bring out my superior/stellar performance at that time, because first of all, I like keeping things steady so it will hit and not end up in the gutters (yet dad keeps telling me to use the "force"). Secondly, there weren't any appropriate-sized balls, so that made it just harder.

So who won what? Rico defeated me in four consecutive bowling games in a row, (ended up being 4-2), and dad beat mom in a hot competition (3-2). Mom tied the game up (dad won 2 games, and mom striked back), and we believed that in the first 2 games mom was "not doing her job."

So, here was the score:

1st Game
1. Dad (151) (1-0)
2. Mom (126) (0-1)
3. Rico (81) (1-0)
4. Red (78) (0-1)

2nd Game
1. Dad (154) (2-0)
2. Mom (102) (0-2)
3. Rico (100) (2-0)
4. Red (81) (0-2)

3rd Game
1. Mom (138) (1-2)
2. Dad (122) (2-1)
3. Rico (80) (3-0)
4. Red (78) (0-3)

4th Game
1. Mom (124) (2-2)
2. Dad (89) (2-2)
3. Rico (85) (4-0)
4. Red (69) (0-4)

5th Game
1. Dad (144) (3-2)
2. Mom (136) (2-3)
3. Red (88) (1-4)
4. Rico (71) (4-1)

6th Game*
1. Red (87) (2-4)
2. Rico (85) (4-2)

*The 6th game only consisted of me and Rico, and the game stopped halfway, so we calculated our total scores by estimation and 2nd score.

Oh, and one thing, and here's something saddening:

Rico, during the 2nd game, made 2 strikes in a row (last week I did that and ended up winning in a comeback fashion). In the third attempt, he hit all but one. Dad tried doing that and guess what he got?

A turkey.

After all the determination and sweat Rico made to attempt a turkey, he hit all but that one middle pin (it probably was the middle finger to Rico.) And dad just did it without trying. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

I failed to bowl because the bowl went to the right all the time, so I should do better next time. But ever since I "screwed with the force", I was able to hit 9 pins most of the time (or strikes).

Website Review #3: Yirl.tk URL Shortener

Posted on May 27, 2012 at 12:45 AM Comments comments (0)

Yirl.Tk - The Easiest Way to Shorten Your URL

SUMMARY
Yirl.Tk is a URL shortener, simple as that. You can create your own custom keyword (like yirl.tk/yourkeyword). You can embed the site's widget to your site, which will be cool and coming soon near you. I seen many URL shorteners but is this just as good?

DESIGN: 70/100
There are problems with the design and I think the biggest issue is the background. It's very distracting, makes it hard for your title to see/read, and the image is tiled. Another problem is that the footer is questionable (for me for the least). The footer is green, but your links have a white background... and should green be the color of your footer? And finally, the color for the text (especially titles don't match, in my opinion). I hope this is improved. Despite the downfall, at least Yirl.tk is simplified and easy for the user to simplify their url.

FEATURES: 85/100
Features of Yirl.tk are:

  • Simplify your URL
  • Customize the keywords of your URL
  • Give it an optional title
  • View the website/url's statistics
  • Share the URL on Twitter, Facebook, etc.
  • Embed the widget to your site (coming soon)

Simplifying your URL is super easy with this site, and only that, but super fast too! In just a second or two (without it loading or barely) the URL is easily shortened.

CONTENT: 80/100
You can do much for your simplified URL, and you can share it to anyone on Facebook, Twitter, and FriendFeed. But that's really much it. It's good that the site is bringing awareness to other websites, and not only that, but by the way the owner's site is here (you can also get your site advertised): http://www.trafficheart.com/

ORGANIZATION: 84/100

It's just a little messy, in my opinion. I don't really like the titles, and the background. If you fix those that will boost up your organization and design points!

CONCLUSION
Yirl.tk is really handy when it comes to shortening URLs, but remember that a major fix on the design (background mostly) will make the site jump. I believe you need the site to have its own logo. Designing for this site is the key, but overall, Yirl.tk is a really good URL shortener. My advice: since you are able to share the link to social networks, I recommend to add more social networks whereas you can share that link to more sites. Adding more features to your site means more functionality, but it's good to know you're not adding too much.

Website Review #2: Teenfun101

SUMMARY
Teenfun101.com is a site to have fun. You can play online games on the arcade, paint, hear music, and answer some quizzes.

DESIGN: 83/100
Teenfun101's design is really nice if you ask me but why 83?

  • Most of the content have tons of large gaps.
  • The background is a bit too distracting (best if it's minimal).
  • When you hover on sub-navs the padding gets too big.
  • Titles and paragraphs are close to the container's borders.
But despite those disadvantages, Teenfun101 has its own design, with none of those presets. Also, the logos are really nice. I really don't care if the site's header is too large. I also like the design of the arcade and quizzes pages.

FEATURES: 87/100
  • Play games
  • Watch videos
  • Do quizzes
  • Hear music
  • Paint stuff
Welcome to Teenfun101.com, it's where the fun is at! :) Not only that but other unique stuff are "Robot" and "Ticket". I guess that the robot page is the support/help page and the ticket page is to contact.

CONTENT: 87/100
There are plenty of things to do in Teenfun101. There are more than 50 games in the arcade, and really, there are a lot of trivias (the first quizzes shown on that page are only the "few" of the overall). Please add a little more, but I'm glad this site didn't rip off other sites really.

ORGANIZATION: 82/100
The gaps on content (text and pictures) mark the score down. But other than that it's not really messy, so the site doesn't deserve an even worse score. If you fix those gaps, I'll remember to increase your score and overall total.

CONCLUSION
Teenfun101.com is a really great site full of fun things to do. My advice is to add more fun stuff to your site to interest viewers, and fix those gaps. Everything else, I have to say, is great. You can pick up your certificate below!

Website Review #1: Buddy Web

Posted on May 23, 2012 at 3:35 PM Comments comments (0)

SUMMARY
I first thought Buddy Web was a social network (due to the fact that people kept asking for a chat), but, well, it's not. In fact, Buddy Web is mostly a place to connect and share short-blogs to your buddies or the people you connect with. The new Buddy Web is much different than the old version, whereas in the old Buddy Web you can play games, watch videos, and yeah. Things have changed, but let's see if Frank improved Buddy Web or not.

DESIGN: 94/100
The design is minimalistic, which is all I can say, and that it's very nice indeed. I think there is a slight problem with the footer in the home page, but the footer (in my opinion) is not big of a deal. Another minor issue I think they have even though they're going to add it is the comment link. For instance, if you click on "7 comments" it will link to another page. But yes they said they will fix it. They are having a new help/support page, and I saw its preview and it is very nice and colorful. The explore page was very nice, too. I believe the design has been done very beautifully.

FEATURES: 92/100
Features that Buddy Web provides are:

  • You can attach links, songs, photos, and videos in your posts. In addition to posting, unlike Twitter, you don't have limited characters, so thumbs up!
  • If you scroll way down in the current page you are in, you will see an arrow appear at the right of the page. Click on it and it will move scroll the page back to the top. Very nice and what a helpful feature (especially if you're lazy and don't want to scroll by yourself).
  • You can customize the background of your profile to "express" yourself. But for your profile, unfortunately, that's it. But you can also add connected social sites to your profile.
  • By going to the explore page you can view what others have been sharing and doing.
  • You can speak with their microphone feature so it will automatically search up what you say.
  • There are much more features coming up in Buddy Web.

CONTENT: 85/100
Buddy Web is an excellent website with content that sticks to the definition of Buddy Web (connect, share, etc.) But I rate it a tad lower because I just feel like I would like a little bit more things in Buddy Web, other than short blog posting. But you know, sharing and connecting to your buddies are two things Buddy Web is mostly about.

COMMUNITY: 93/100
Buddy Web is bustling and at least every day someone (more than 1) is online. There are a lot of community members, and I can really tell (I predict 1000 members in Buddy Web.) That is a lot and that is plenty. Sadly, PageRank Checker says Buddy Web is 1/10 in page rank value. But it's not like Google or anything! ;)

CONCLUSION
Very nice design, nice, simplistic features, content that's not way too out of reach and a lot of members in Buddy Web. Very nice job Frank! Hope you are happy with your results!

The Request of Being Reviewed

Posted on May 23, 2012 at 3:25 PM Comments comments (0)

I told everyone at Buddy Web I was really bored and wanted to review some sites. I got 2 comments saying they want their site reviewed. I felt happy because now I can do something.

Today I have no homework, no tests, nothing. I am working on Shadow Infinite (and Aceofshadows, the mastermind of the site, is deciding to reopen it. See the next post for details.) but that's really much it. But seriously, this is how needed people are in need of criticism and reviewing.

I saw practically at least 10 people this month for their site to be reviewed--and luckily an answer for that is here.

To conclude, I will start reviewing:

  • Buddy Web
  • Teenfun101
  • Creepster's Lair
  • HibbleLand

But though I need to view it first, reviewing requires time and patience, so please wait and don't rush. Rushing = less information = I have to find bias info to fill it up, which is no good. So yes, I will review starting now, and at the same time, work on Shadow Infinite with Ace.

The Infinite Doesn't Go Forever

Posted on May 20, 2012 at 11:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Okay, yes, infinity, or infinite, goes forever, but when I mean infinity (or infinite, again) doesn't go forever, we're talking about Shadow Infinite.

Ace and I aren't working on Shadow Infinite because first of all Aceofshadows (or Shadowv1337 now) is not happy with the ten pages limit for Free Webs Users, so generally he's rage quitting right now, and second, because it's May (and June is coming up), it's my turn to settle down, relax, and do some socializing with the Webs Community. I am busy tweeting and short-blogging at Buddy Web.

Shadow Infinite, well, we're uncertain whether Shadow Infinite will end or not. This is Shadow Infinite's end of the line, mainly because it will no longer be worked on.

if, however, we decide to continue on working on this halted project (which has a minor chance of happening), well then, first things first:

Definitely design changes, but we will not use the Webs Site Builder 3. This time I would actually use photoshop and following some tutorials to make a professional template... but will it happen? And this time I'm going to make it myself and not re-customize already-made templates (like from WebCloud, who, I think, moved their server, if you knew a long time ago).

Upgrade to Premium--the internet is supposed to be free, not to pay. Unfortunately some people (excluding, or not including, Webs, especially with their upgrades and deals for them) decided that we have to pay to get the maximum features, such as Artix Entertainment (not being mean, and I did play Adventure Quest and AQ Worlds before, but I didn't get much opportunities especially with premium and luxury items). However, if Aceofshadows wants to get the hell out of this mess, well, then, we need to upgrade. Enhanced is the way to go--though Pro is better, but too much is not good.

We will also include new random content, weekly updating, and finally, number of pages. Well, if we get premium, and get many members and visitors, luckily we will offer more content, maybe 20-30 pages, and more. But one major issue is weekly updating. This is a big factor because the lack of updating (especially not updating 2 times a day) leads to the decrease of traffic and so forth. Creepster's Lair got their first update since February 2012, and that is not good (but at least they made an Ultimate Retards Guide page during April.)

Shadow Infinite's concept logo is kind of, already being created. But is it going to be used? It's one thing you should find out later in the summer (maybe June, July, August, you may never know...) :D

Concept Logos for 2013

Posted on May 14, 2012 at 3:30 PM Comments comments (0)

So far I have been working on next year's works because I would like to "upgrade" from this year quickly and not have to worry. Before Creepster. Ace, Rico, and I played 3 hour game of Baseball at a small field nearby a park I decided working on the Creepster's Lair logo. Unfortunately due to the close down of Shadow Infinite the new logo and design will not be created. In addiiton to this, HibbleLand (Rico's site) will not have a logo change, because I think it's fine. But then again, I'm not going to edit their content, just the design and that's that! Okay I do revise their work but definitely not clear it out.

If you seen the 2013 Creepster's Lair concept logo at the home page, it should look a little bit like this:

Now there's one thing that I am going to make different.

For instance, Creepster's Lair's logo will not be that big. It looks really good in my opinion and it definitely fits (if you think about it). Colors might be different and it is uncertain whether I will add a skull or not. But that's all in the works!

The plans of designing could be based on this logo which is a good thing, because I am now able to visualize my upcoming design for the site. By the way, Creepster's Lair's template was based off another site, and back then I didn't have much of the skills to create my own original, originally, so, yeah.

Today I have piano practice for a be special "something" at Ohio so I am not able to tell you everything so far. Also, I want to try Mass Effect 3 and play it. My friends are telling me that it is a great game. Only a few of them have it but most don't. I will ask my bro if I can post the game vid at his site. LOL.
